      Wasteland 2 has reached 1.5 million dollars pledged on Kickstarter .  That is the goal they have set to go fully cross platform, releasing for Mac and Linux in addition to Windows.     Wasteland 2 is a fan funded sequel to the classic post-apocalyptic game Wasteland This is really exciting news for anyone who is a fan of post-apocalyptic RPGs and gaming on their Linux machines.   Wasteland 2  promises to be a high quality Baldur's Gate style turn based, party based, RPG video game.  Personally I am a big fan of the post-apocalyptic genre of anything (movies, books, video games) plus I love Ubuntu operating system, so this is really exciting news. Ubuntu gamers around the world rejoice!

    Taking a look at the ownCloud website ownCloud 3 is just hours away from release.  I recently posted a how to on setting up ownCloud 2 on Ubuntu Sever.  This project just keeps on rolling!     I'm really excited to see this project continue to develop so rapidly.  I think it is extremely important to have an open cloud storage solution.  Keep your data in your own hands!     It looks like I'm g oing to have to get to work on a how to for  installing  ownCloud 3 on Ubuntu server!

    Who doesn't love a classic game of snake?  No one?  That is what I thought!     Bitsnake is just that a classic snake game written in Python.  A snake game written in a language named after a snake you say!  Well actually it's named after the British comedy troupe, but still...     You know snake right.  They game where your goal is to eat "apples" and try not to run into the wall or yourself.  Simple, classic big fat time killer.     Loved blasting Nazis in  Wolfenstein?  Hacking apart demons or whatever in Doom?  Just plain get nostalgic for running around inside a pseudo-3d environment, gunning down your enemies?  Me too!        Retro Blazer is a truly retro FPS based on the Darkplaces game engine .  Missed using arrow keys?  They got you covered.  Retro Blazer just released a demo/alpha test for all us FPS lovers to download and play.  It's a lot of fun and so far the alpha release seems very stable.  Don't worry about  the game crashing to much.       To play Retro Blazer on Ubuntu simply download it , unzip and execute the proper binary (probably  darkplaces-linux-x86_64-sdl and  ignore all those .exe files...).  The game is also available on Windows and OS X.     0 AD is one of the games I am most excited about.  It is a real time stratagy game set (you guessed it) around 0 AD.  It features several civilizations Greeks, Romans, etc. and with the alpha 8 release they just added the Persians.  Along with the Persians comes the ability to save single player games, which in my opinion  is a must for even giving a game a try.     I loved playing real time strategy games for a long time.  Starting with  Red Alert and Age of Empires I had just about every RTS I could get my hands on while I was growing up.  Eventually however these games started to wear on me.  Every one seemed the same.  Sure there is a pretty big difference between Age of Mythology, Empire Earth and Star Craft.  But is there really?  You have some kind of citizen units.  They build things and collect resources.  You have military units.  They kill and destroy whatever...

    One of the things I have been doing very little of for the last several years is PC gaming.  This is probably mostly due to a complete lack of a Windows machine in my life.  Plus with all of the great games available for Android my needs as a casual gamer are more than met.     However, this years humble bundled has reignited my interest in PC gaming.  I got it and installed a couple of the games on my Ubuntu machine.  So far they are a lot of fun especially VVVVVV .  This got me asking "what else can I play on Ubuntu?"  Turns out there is a plethora of free open source games, some awesome, some not so much.  Many are available from the   Ubuntu Software Center and many you have to hunt down around the web.     One thing that keeps many Windows users from Ubuntu (or any Linux OS for that matter) is a supposed lack of games.  This is simply not the case.  While yes many of th...

    I recently stumbled upon a tutorial on how to  setup ownCloud on a Debian machine .  I had actually never heard of ownCloud until reading this tutorial but now it is one of the projects I am most excited about.  ownCloud is an open source project that allows you to use your own server to store files, songs and do a bunch of other stuff.  It is similar to the many cloud services available on the web except it never leaves your "custody."     One very easy way to start using ownCloud is to install ownCloud 1.1 from the Ubuntu repository by running:  $ sudo apt-get install owncloud     However, ownCloud 1.1 is pretty boring compared to the super sexiness of ownCloud 2.0 in my opinion.  So if you are cool with drab old 1.1 then go ahead and just apt-get it.  But if you want the sexiness of 2.0 on your Ubuntu server please follow along...     In a republic like ours one of the greatest things we can do as citizens to influence legislation is to write our representatives and senators to voice our opinion.  For this hour in history I strongly suggest writing your representative in congress against SOPA.  The Stop Online Piracy Act will allow the U.S. Government to use DNS blocking; the same method used by the PRC , Iran and Syria to censor The Internet and keep there citizens in the dark.     Please help fight SOPA !  Fellow The Dallesians and eastern Oregonians please email  Greg Walden .  You can also sign a petition at whitehose.gov to let the white house know what we think about this bill and where they can shove it.

    The easy winner is in my book is The Bible App  from YouVersion and LifeChurch.tv .  It is by far the most popular Bible application on android and was one of the 100 most downloaded apps for both iPhone and iPad.     The Bible App has just about every Bible translation you can think of from the KJV to the Message.  Many of which are downloadable for offline use for free in case you are ever off network and still want the convenience of reading on your phone.  It also has several languages with multiple translations for most languages.     One of my favorite things about YouVersion is that they have literally hundreds of  reading plans for those of us who need a little help figuring out what to read.  There are whole Bible reading plans for reading the entire bible in some amount of time, typically a year.  My personal favorite is the  M'Cheyne one year reading plan.  The also hav...
